Sippy Cup MomI have a secret. Initially, I tried to keep it from everyone except my immediate family. Then, it leaked out.  Well, not so much leaked, as…quacked!  I have ducks as pets.  This would not sound too unusual if I lived on a farm but I do not live on a farm.  I live in a suburban community where people usually stick to the typical pet offerings.  Generally, neighbors do not keep two rescued Pekin ducks who were former residents of our local duck pond.  I like to tell people that “I’m channeling my inner farmer”.

Here is the photo we used on our 2009 Christmas Card.

Get it?? This was the year we brought home our ducks.  A little inside joke. We thought it was HYSTERICAL J but then again I am always my own best audience!

Whenever we meet any of the Disney ducks, I always babble about how excited we are to meet them and “we’re taking this picture for our ducks back home.”  (I cannot even begin to imagine how insane these cast members think I am!!)  But my enthusiasm for the characters is not limited to Donald and friends…we love to meet all the characters! It’s a huge part of our visits to Walt Disney World. We will patiently wait on endless lines to grab a hug from our favorites.  It’s a small moment in our busy day in the park but sometimes our most memorable.  Like when DD got the squeeze of a lifetime from Cinderella at the Magic Kingdom!  Or when we met the Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland at Epcot (IMHO the Mad Hatter is possibly one of the funniest characters at Walt Disney World)!  How about the time DH and DD waited forever and then became the very last guests permitted to meet Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?

Then there’s DS… I  still giggle when I think about how he was completely hypnotized by an absolutely stunning Princess Jasmine at Epcot. Of course, there’s my own classic character moment when I got to walk the red carpet with the Divas at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Or when Mr. MouseEars had a lovely photo op with Mrs. Merriweather at DHS, too… where she quipped about “buying all her mickeys at Mickey’s of Hollywood” .

Are you a character meeting type? Who’s your favorite? Any great moments???

And speaking of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, tickets are on sale now…and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, too!  (I’ll post about the great time we had at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party soon.)  Oh AND speaking of character meet and greets, despite some delays, looks like Phineas and Ferb will be arriving at Disney’s Hollywood Studios soon!

I LOVE meeting characters. In 2001 I had my picture taken with the Mad Hatter, Alice, & the Queen of Hearts, I was beyond excited. I think it is awesome that you have rescued ducks as pets. Love the photos!

I would LOVE to have a couple ducks in the back yard! They’d eat up all the bugs!! 🙂

You have ducks? You must be a lovely person.

When I talk to first time visitors that don’t want to bother with the characters, I think it’s a shame. It’s so much fun to interact with them. I agree about the Hatter. He’s quite a card!
