Planet Explorers Walt Disney World Guide 2011: A Guidebook for Kids by Laura Schaefer offers your 8-12 year old everything they need to know about a trip to “the World” in a fresh ebook format. Available at Smashwords.com for $2.99, this easy to follow guide takes you through each park with a kid-focused explanation of attractions, eateries, retail shops and more. It also includes plenty of fun facts and trivia, many with links to interesting Disney themed sites. The guide was written in a style that felt like a cool insider was telling you all the best info about your upcoming vacation. I liked it!

The ebook format was fun to use. Most information was current. (Although I realize it is difficult to keep up to the minute with park facts, like closures.) Also, the book only touched on topics such as resorts and made no mention of cost, etc. However, I feel this is completely appropriate for a guidebook aimed at kids. Be sure to check out the other Planet Explorers titles: Disneyland and Chicago.

This ebook is definitely one I will be sharing with the MouseEars bunch. After I’m completely done with it. I don’t want to be fighting them for my iPad 🙂

Normally on Thursday, I participate in a wonderful Disney Blog Hop hosted by Babes in Disneyland. Unfortunately it’s postponed until next week. Our host shared some sad news about the passing of her much loved family dog, Jake. Being the ridiculously huge animal lover I am, it made made me genuinely sad. Brings back too many memories. At the same time though it also serves as a reminder of just how wonderful animals are and how they enrich our existence. Part of the reason why I love Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge so much.

As a guest, you’re given an “all access” pass to life on an African savannah. From room balconies to observation areas, you are able to lose yourself and become part of something normally only seen on television nature shows. Sometimes, you even catch a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes…which brings me to Mary. Sipping my morning coffee and watching the World come alive is one of my favorite things. One morning, an ostrich wasn’t wanting much to do with a Cast Member who was trying to get her attention. The ostrich was called Mary. When the rest of the MouseEars Family woke up, I introduced them to Mary, who was still hanging out in the area. From that day on, Mary became one of “us”. We looked for her all the time. We called all ostriches “Mary” until one looked at us funny. We chatted with her off the room balcony, when we thought it was her. Amazing. As I said, animals enrich our lives and that Mary, really added something special to our stay.

Mary!

Magical Mouse Schoolhouse

My name is Mrs. Mommy MouseEars and I am a Disney-travel craftaholic. As soon as a Disney trip is on the horizon I start thinking, what do I need to start making? But I would not be the crazy trip crafter I am today, if it wasn’t for the faboo DIS-igners on DISboards.com.

I have found and made fantastic t-shirts, customized autograph books, mousekeeping envelopes, pressed penny tubes, welcome letters, goody bags and more…all thanks to the artistic geniuses found in the Creative DISigns forum.

Use your imagination and utilize “search this forum”. I pretty much guarantee that someone has already made your DISwish come true! And you can then make your crafty dream a reality.

Now, go make something!

A great friend of mine and Disney fan is trying really hard to book a fast trip down to Walt Disney World. She wants to stay on-site during a fairly specific timeframe…and of course, she wants FREE DINING. We discussed the pros and cons of doing a vacation “with” or “without” and for both of our families, it’s hard to go back to traveling to WDW without free dining. The savings for a family who enjoys at least one sit down meal per day is significant. Then, there’s the ease of knowing the cost of your meals is pretty much taken care of in advance of your arrival. I say “pretty much” because you still need to cover some charges like a third meal per day, gratuities, alcohol and if you’re like my crew…additional snacks.

But what savings strategies can you use if you cannot find a “free dining” deal? One of the things we looked at was trying to find a nice room only deal. We did actually come across some discount codes via MouseSavers.com. Although, these offers brought down the trip cost, it still couldn’t quite match a dining discount. We also peeked at some package offers via Authorized Disney Planners and again, very tempting but not quite as deep as dining.

Ultimately…we’re still working on it! The true motivation for wanting a particular timeframe is so my friend and I can vacation TOGETHER with our families in our mutual happy place. Actually, that’s the G-rated version…the “adult” version has something to do with Drinking Around the World.

There's That Grey Goose Slushie...AGAIN!

Any other tips or tricks out there, my blogosphere experts?
