Magical Mouse Schoolhouse

The Main Street Electrical Parade at Walt Disney World sets the Magic Kingdom aglow with floats, lights, performers and a synthesized soundtrack that is pure fun! I wish you all a safe and happy Independence Day and give to you a few photos of the finale float titled, Honor America.

Happy Birthday, USA!

Where has the last week of my life gone??!!  Like a Walt Disney World vacation, this past week has whizzed by!  The MouseEars kids finished school and started their rigorous schedule of sleepovers, parties and playdates.  Then, there were all the things I like to save up for when the kids are finally around…like doctor’s appointments.  Which wouldn’t be any fun at all if it weren’t seasoned with a medical crisis smack dab in the middle!  I am happy to report that all is well and I am baaaaack.

All this racing has got me to thinking…if I were visiting Walt Disney World on a super tight schedule…what would be the one thing in each of the parks that would be my “must do’s”?

The first stop would of course be Magic Kingdom…and it wouldn’t be a trip to the Magic Kingdom without a visit to the Haunted Mansion!  Now, for our next trip I’m super excited to experience the new interactive queue.  All sorts of fun awaits as visitors snake through to the actual entrance.  Here’s a video of the soft opening from Inside the Magic:

Next on the tour, straight to EPCOT and on to Soarin’!  I’m warning everyone now, I like to say “Wooooooow!” a lot when I am hangliding over California:)  Check out the Walt Disney World website for full deets.

Hurry hurry and head on in to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and over to Toy Story Mania!  And you better run, if you want to grab a FASTPASS!!  I love this ride and I stink at all arcade games:)  This attraction is pure fun.  Here I am getting my butt kicked by Missy MouseEars and laughing the whole way through:

And our final stop on this whirlwind tour is Disney’s Animal Kingdom and a bit of time traveling with DINOSAUR.  I love this attracton, for the theming and because it is the ultimate spot for a souvenir photo 🙂

Mr. MouseEars and son are first row, left and ARE posing. Everyone else is NOT!! Take a good look...too freaking funny!!

OK we’re back!  Did we catch your faves too?  No?!  Let me know which ones they are and I promise we’ll see them next time.

Welcome Disney Blog Hop Friends! Great to see you all and a big thank you to our hop host, Babes in Disneyland and co-host, Manda’s Disney Blog!! This week’s theme is such a huge part of what Walt Disney World means to me, “Magic Moments”. For me they are everywhere but I happened to come across this series of photos that create a “photo essay” of sorts of one recent “magic moment” .

I’ll set the scene a bit…we are huge Toy Story 3 fans. Every member of the MouseEars family has seen it a ridiculous number of times. DD had it in her mind during a recent WDW visit, that she would meet Lotso. Who cares if he’s pure evil?! She loves him. So, we found the smaller stuffed strawberry-scented version at Disney’s Hollywoood Studios and we headed off to see if we could find the real deal.

Mission accomplished.

You know, I’m starting to feel very comfortable with all you peeps out in the blogosphere and I think it’s time to share. (Cue sappy music…) I’d like to tell you all about my first time…staying at a Walt Disney World Resort!!

Our first ever resort was Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. I’ll never forget seeing her. Her beautiful entrance portico followed by the awe inspiring lobby. The lobby itself filled with gorgeous Mission-style furniture, Native American museum quality artifacts and a spectacular stone fireplace with inviting rocking chairs. It didn’t matter that this was not “fireplace weather”‘, folks were gathered in front just the same. Majestic music filled the space, as did the hoots and hollers from the Whispering Canyon Cafe. There was even the sound of gurgling water as a spring gently overflowed, leading out to the beautifully landscaped waterfall and pool. I was immediately in love and I barely knew her.

Our love affair lasted two years. After that I moved on to something much more “grand”…Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, then others from there.

Welcome Disney Blog Hop Readers…both old and new! Thanks again to Babes in Disneyland for hosting the hop and for suggesting today’s theme: Family. This week has been ALL about my family 🙂 Not that it isn’t always but the end of our school year seems to magnify everything from their schedules to their “emotional neediness” (thank you, Puberty). So, it only seems natural that this should be today’s theme pick…lol!

Our trips to Walt Disney World are and always have been about family vacation. I’ve never been able to swing a getaway for me and The Mr. or a “Girls Only” trip. Not that I haven’t planned and discussed with all my partners in crime! It simply hasn’t happened…yet;). Even if it did, it would have to be in addition to everything else….since my best family portraits all come from Walt Disney World using Disney’s PhotoPass!

Disney’s Photopass is fun and easy to use. For a terrific tutorial check out StitchKingdom.com’s, “The Definitive Guide, Disney’s PhotoPass”. Here are some of my family’s favorite results:

This has been quite a week. Full of more than the usual ups and downs. I said goodbye to a friend who lost her battle with cancer and I saw my oldest begin his journey into high school. My daughter performed with her special needs dance group to a standing ovation and my father could not join us because he is recuperating from a broken pelvis. And with each event…hugs. Hugs get me through both bad and good. Something about this simple gesture that speaks much more to me than words.

When we’re in Disney, I like to load up on hugs. Because there are times like this when it’s comforting to look back at my photos and think,

“Yeah, that was a good one”.

Welcome Babes in Disneyland Blog Hop Readers and thanks to all for stopping by today’s “themed” post:  Summer!!!  “Babes” and co-host Disney On Wheels couldn’t have picked a better day since temps here in the NY area are screaming up to the high 90’s.  And I. love. It.  🙂  I understand without A/C,  life would suck.  According to my kids, this is the case at school.  Funny though, that when we travel around Walt Disney World in August, no one’s complaining!   Which is exactly what I wanted to talk about today:

My Top Three Tips to Beat the Heat in the Happiest Place on Earth!

Since my oldest entered Middle School, our “family vacation” time is pretty much in sync with the school calendar.  We’ve had a chance to get a winter break down south to Walt Disney World here and there but primarily we stick to the good ole’ summertime.  I personally have no issue with the heat (and like it “Africa Hot”) but Florida temps do take their toll on even the most serious park warrior!  Here’s what we do to help keep our cool:

Get “ The  Look” – We dress lightly.  It’s mostly shorts, capris, t-shirts and sundresses for my crew.  Also, I try to stick to anything that I know can get wet and washes well.  Seems obvious but you’d be surprised what fashion victims we’ve spotted prancing around in the parks!  And we always bring or purchase a hat.  My daughter tends to like to make her first stop on Main Street USA inside Magic Kingdom, a hat buying expedition.  The difference with and without a hat is crazy in the Florida heat!  It will save you painful scalp sunburn and make you feel way cooler.  Also, sunglasses are a must.  We’ve recently seen news reports here on how you can actually get “sunburn” in your eyes…yikes!!

Sporting "The Look" inside the Magic Kingdom

Water, Water, Everywhere – Hydration is key!  Drink loads of it, anytime you can.  Make sure it’s not just carbonated or caffeinated beverages, either.   Dehydration can happen quickly in extreme heat.  When we fly to WDW, we have water delivered to our resort from GardenGrocer.com.  Though many people bring water with them, one way or another.  Saves us from having to purchase water on snack credits or pay out-of-pocket and the parks allow you to bring it in.  I understand that most counter service eateries will also provide you with a cup of water on request.  In my mind however, that’s asking for lots of water all the time.  Realistically, I don’t see how anyone would do that enough to keep themselves properly hydrated during a summertime visit.  Yes, it’s a lot to lug all those water bottles into the park but you could also bring your own refillable waterbottle.  I haven’t tried it but I understand that this product, Hydro Flask is excellent.

Give it a Rest – Breaks are key!  Whether it’s hitting a shady bench, finding an indoor eatery with A/C, hopping on your favorite dark ride or heading back to the hotel for a midday swim break….do it and do it often.   If I had a dollar for every overtired, overheated park guest I’ve seen in August, I’d be rich (not just toddlers…cranky adults, too!) Kick back and relax, you’ll enjoy the rest of your day so much better.

Since outside my NY doorstep today is just like Orlando in August, I am taking all of my advice to get through my day.  Oooooh, and one more tip…it wouldn’t be summer in Orlando without a pop up thundershower!  Be prepared by picking up a poncho in any park, Walmart or sometimes you can even find a rain jacket at your local dollar store…just like I did!

Dollar Store Rain Jacket...FAIL

Hey, I want my dollar back! 🙂
